Dark Web Stories

Strange and eerie tales told by people who have used the Dark Web

Dark Web Stories

The "Dark Web" is a dark part of the internet where many people want to keep their identities a secret: counterfeit drugs, stolen goods, and so on.

However, there are also much stranger components.

"What's your Deep Web story?" was the straightforward question posed in a popular Reddit thread. To put it another way, the person on Reddit was asking people to talk about weird things they'd done when using anonymous web services to get into secret websites.

A number of websites, more commonly referred to as the Dark Web (or Deep Web), are accessible through services like Tor, which allow users to browse the internet anonymously while concealing their identities. A standard web browser like Google Chrome will not be able to access these websites.

Silk Road is a typical illustration of a Dark Web site, a once-thriving black market for goods that is now closed and whose notorious founder is currently behind bars. Silk Road is no longer available, but what else is there?

According to those who have actually experienced them, these are some of the bizarre and eerie things that can be found when accessing the dark underbelly of the internet.

Cale Guthrie Weissman's previous post serves as the basis for this one.

What can you purchase?

The purchase of items that people wish to conceal is one of the most common uses of the Dark Web. However, how bizarre are these? Stories from some users are quite bizarre...

For the self-taught surgeon:

On occasion, you can discover everyday items on the Dark Web. However, how you market it is what makes it "illicit." Consider the (very gross) item for sale on Silk Road:
SR DIY vasectomy kit It was a set of hooks that looked like they came from a dentist's tool and a tube.$20.

"Pills of wish"

A "wish pill" was found by one person. The details are as follows:
In essence, you take the pill, make a wish, and it is supposed to bring your wish to life. They made up fake elements that were supposedly found in nature and showed videos of them "making the pill," which was really just a bunch of blue lights flashing at the screen, which made me laugh at how much they were trying to present it as real.
They were offering it at a price of $100 per pill, and the sad thing is that probably a few stupid people bought it.

All of the horn

There are times when you need something specific but have no other options. If that's the case, be on the lookout for a high price. Reddit user explains:
When I went looking for rhino horn a few years ago for a story, one man said he had a few whole horns he could sell for six figures. I had to get by.
